Can genes affect how we deal with trauma?

We now know that early childhood and other experiences throughout one's life can adversely affect the expression of your genes, and that this can even be passed on to your children. In other words, if your parents or grandparents experienced traumatic lives, this can make you more susceptible to the adverse effects of trauma in your own life.
